10uF 50V Electrolytic Capacitor 5x7mm
An electrolytic capacitor is a polarized capacitor whose anode, or positive plate, is made of a metal that forms an insulating oxide layer through anodization. This oxide layer serves as the capacitor's dielectric. A solid, liquid, or gel electrolyte covers the surface of this oxide layer, which serves as the capacitor's cathode, or negative plate. Due to the very thin dielectric oxide layer and the extended anode surface, electrolytic capacitors have a much higher capacitance-voltage product (CV) per unit volume than ceramic capacitors or film capacitors and can therefore have large capacitance values.
There are many applications that do not require tight tolerances and AC polarization, but do require large capacitance values. They are often used as filtering devices in various power supplies to reduce voltage ripple. When used in power supply replacements, they are often critical components that limit the power supply's usable lifespan, so high-quality capacitors are used in this application.
