ADuM1201 is a dual channel digital isolator based on iCoupler technology of Analog devices. Combining high-speed CMOS and monolithic transformer technology, this isolation component offers superior performance characteristics to alternatives such as optocoupler devices.

By avoiding the use of LEDs and photodiodes, iCoupler devices eliminate the design challenges commonly associated with optocouplers. Typical optocoupler concerns about uncertain current transfer rates, nonlinear transfer functions and their effects are eliminated by simple iCoupler digital interfaces and stable performance features. With these iCoupler products, the need for external drivers and other discrete components is eliminated. Additionally, iCoupler devices consume up to six tenths of the power of optocouplers at comparable signal data rates.

The ADuM1201 isolator provides two independent isolation channels in a variety of channel configurations and data rates. It operates with supply voltage ranging from 2.7 V to 5.5 V, ensuring compatibility with lower voltage systems and providing a voltage translation functionality across the insulation barrier. Additionally, the ADuM1201 provides low pulse width distortion (<3 ns for class CR) and tight channel-to-channel mapping (<3 ns for class CR). Unlike other optocoupler alternatives, the ADuM1201 isolator features regenerative capability that ensures dc accuracy in the absence of input logic transients and power on/power off conditions.
