APM 2.8 is an autopilot module. It allows the user to turn a fixed, rotary-wing or multi-wing vehicle (even cars and boats) into a fully autonomous vehicle; Capable of performing GPS missions programmed with waypoints. allows two-way radio communication giving you complete control and delivers live data to your computer or tablet.
 
Sensors are exactly the same as the APM2.6, but the compass is powered to avoid magnetic interference. and there is an optional compass designed for vehicles (especially multicutters and rovers) that need to be located as far away from engine sources as possible. There is an option to use the built-in compass or the external compass using a jumper. The 3DR uBlox with Compass is designed for use with GPS so that the GPS/Compass unit can be mounted higher than the APM itself to avoid noise sources. APM 2.8 requires a GPS unit for full autonomy.

Using the built-in compass
To use the built-in compass, connect the jumper as shown below. If the compass jumper is removed, the APM board uses external compass, best for multirotors with externally mounted GPS/compass module.
