The PCIe to M.2 4G/5G and USB 3.2 Raspberry Pi HAT is a HAT+ format expansion board designed to provide high-speed mobile communication and additional USB connectivity for the Raspberry Pi 5. It utilizes the Raspberry Pi 5's 16-pin PCIe interface and connects to the onboard VL805 controller via a PCIe x1 Gen2 link. This enables the simultaneous use of an M.2 4G/5G modem and multiple USB 3.2 Gen1 ports on a single board.
The board features an M.2 NGFF Key-B slot and is compatible with SIMCom and Quectel-based 4G/5G modems in 3042/3052 form factors. The onboard USB Type-C port serves multiple functions beyond just power input; when a compatible modem is installed, it allows for a direct USB modem connection to a PC or Raspberry Pi, facilitates firmware updates and debugging, or enables the supply of external 5V DC power to the board.
